It is a happy 14th birthday to World of Words i.e. www.worldofwords.education
Over 4000 children have participated in this innovative initiative and that means over 20 schools and several community projects.
WOW cares, shares and dares! The futures of the juveniles who participate is the key motivational factor for our programme. WOW has succeeded on many fronts getting to know their audience. Those in attendance are given a voice and a ear to listen to their assessment of life. When one child says ‘thanks for not giving up on me’ that speaks volumes for WOW.
We fundraise to run the project and that has taken many forms from a sky dive to a river swim to a cycle ride from Toulouse in France to Tonypandy.
World of Words (WOW) is a non-profit social enterprise that builds self-esteem and confidence among primary school children. The core of literacy has been a success in developing well-being among youngsters in a region of the UK which is often overlooked.
There have been a variety of plaudits for WOW from the pupils, parents, teachers and the media. The introduction of a range of role models has aided the cause and a rewards programme has seen many families attend free events ranging from international sport through to pantomimes and visits to cultural centres.
Our stories promote positive actions, learning, ambition, respect, helping oneself and others, environmental goals, pet care plus goal setting. We aim at the 6 e’s: Engagement, enterprise, entertainment, excitement, education and employment.
PUPILS have said:
+‘I am now a proud and confident reader’.
+‘You have helped me a lot since I joined the group’.
+‘(Without you) I would not know half of the things that I now know’.
WOW says ‘life is a test, just try your best’ and there are many challenges that face us every day and being prepared can only help a navigation of daily tasks.
